Definitions of emergence include “the process of coming into being—or of becoming important or prominent—or coming into view after being concealed”. My muse immediately went to the daily ritual of the movement of the sun and the moon. As I worked into this body of paintings my vision spread to the evolving development of plants and then to the possibilities of what might emerge through a door. One of my earliest paintings is of a sculpture of the Virgin Mary shrouded in an Irish mist, and viewed through a decaying stone door of an old Druid ruin. I paired it with a recent painting of the new entry door of my residence after a snow storm. I ask myself what has passed through these portals and what will pass through them in the future. The mystery goes on.
